The GB Women returned to court for their second game of the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships against France who, the previous day, had put up a fantastic performance against 2013 Silver Medallists Germany.
It was France who took the first points of the game with baskets from Marianne Buso and Fabienne Saint Omer-Delepine giving the team a 4-0 lead. Helen Freeman and Jordanna Bartlett then hit back for Great Britain, temporarily levelling the score on 4-4, before France pushed ahead by two again. The GB Women then raised their game to secure an 18-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
A fantastic second quarter saw Great Britain consolidate their earlier performances in the key: shooting their way to 45-15 lead at half time.
The third quarter saw France settle into the game – doubling their score to enter the final quarter on 31 points; the GB Women nevertheless with a 32 point lead on 63 points.
Maintaining their focus, Great Britain continued to drive forwards in the final 10 minutes of the game, working their way to a 79-37 victory.
GB Women's Head Coach Miles Thompson said: "It was an important game because - one, it gets us 2 and 0 in the tournament and, two, it gives us momentum going into a big opponents like Germany. We did what we needed to do and I’ve got to be happy about that.”
