With both teams taking to court for the first time at the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships, in the end it was Turkey who emerged victorious with a 52-46 triumph.
Indeed, Turkey dominated the first quarter of this gritty encounter as they worked to a 12-6 advantage over the Netherlands.
The second quarter saw the Dutch team hit back: Robin Poggenwisch earning consecutive baskets to bring his team back within four points (8-12). With little now separating the two sides, Turkey found another level to move extend their lead to 23-10 before and end-to-end final two minutes to the half saw the Netherlands hit back to 17-27.
The Netherlands continued their fightback in the third quarter: a stunning performance seeing the team close Turkey’s lead back down to just three points with 10 minutes remaining in the game: Turkey ahead by 38-35.
A nailbiting final quarter then ensued: a fantastic basket from Mattijs Bellers putting the Netherlands within just one point of their opponents (37-38). Turkey, however, continued to show great composure, maintaining their focus to edge out a 52-46 triumph.
