The first game on Day 2 of the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships saw the Spain Women’s Team return to action against Italy, bouncing back from their previous day's loss as they stormed to a 75-15 win.
After a tough game the day before against the reigning champions from the Netherlands, Spain soared into action against Italy, racing to a 10-2 lead with just over four minutes played. Italy, taking to the court for the first time, continued to battle hard – Beatrice Sorina Ion completing a three point play within the final two minutes of the quarter (5-18), but it was Spain who earned the final basket to take the opening 10 minutes by 20-5.
The second quarter saw Spain come out firing once again as they quickly built to a 32-5 lead; Italy’s shots just not falling as the Spanish Team pushed to a 36-9 lead at half time.
Looking to overcome their previous day’s loss, Spain continued to dominate the play at the both ends of the court – capitalising on their performances in the key with a strong defence to earn a 75-15 win.
