Tuesday 1st September saw Sweden and the Netherlands take to court in a nailbiting encounter, the Netherlands edging out a two point victory: 57-55
It was a close first quarter between Sweden and the Netherlands. Sweden took the early lead, however Netherlands came fighting back finish the first quarter trailing by just three points, 11-8.
The second quarter continued at the same pace with both Sweden and the Netherlands exchanging baskets. A great defensive effort from Sweden allowed them to take advantage of a number of turnovers and stretch their lead out to 11 points, 37-26, into the half time break.
The Swedish team continued to impress in the second half, and led by Joakim Lindbolm they added an extra four points on to their lead, but some consistent scoring from Mustafa Korkmaz kept the Netherlands within touching distance - the quarter ending 50-42.
The Dutch then started the fourth with an eight point unanswered run, bringing the scores level with 4 minutes 30 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Netherlands took the lead for the first time in the game with 1 minute 30 remaining and although Sweden had the chance to tie the game and force it into extra time, the shot didn't drop on their last offensive play; the Netherlands taking the game and an important win 57-55.
