With both teams looking for their first win of the Championships, Italy roared into action against Switzerland - a strong second half securing the Italian Team a 79-41 win.
It was Italy who were first on the scoreboard as they raced to a 15-0 lead in the game's opening five minutes. With Switzerland's shots just not falling, Italy continued to pile on the pressure to take a 22-4 lead at the end of the first quarter - Matteo Cavagnini earning Italy the last points of the 10 minutes with a fantastic buzzer beater.
The second quarter saw Italy come out strong: taking the first four points to edge ahead by 56-21. Switzerland continued to battle hard, but – going on to add another 25 points to their tally – it was Italy who entered half time ahead by 51-13.
Rallying together after half time, Switzerland put on a strong performance in the third: earning 13 points to their opponents’ 14; Italy nevertheless holding a 65-26 advantage with just 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The Swiss Team continued their fightback in the final quarter, outshooting Italy by 15-14; the Italians’ strong first half performance securing the team a 79-41 victory.
